Ingredients
- For the Filling:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 1/2 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- For Assembly:
- 10-12 egg roll wrappers
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing the wrappers)
- Oil for frying (vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Flavorings:
- Add the minced garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt to the cooked beef. Stir to combine and cook for another minute until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Mix in Cheese and Green Onions:
- Once the beef mixture has cooled a bit, stir in the shredded cheese and chopped green onions until evenly combined.
- Prepare the Egg Rolls:
- Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape). Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef filling in the center of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides. Roll the wrapper tightly away from you, sealing the top corner with a little beaten egg.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle and turn golden brown quickly.
- Fry the Egg Rolls:
- Carefully add a few egg rolls to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the egg rolls and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the cheesy beef egg rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauces, such as sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or sriracha.
Tips
- Baking Option: If you prefer a healthier version, you can brush the egg rolls with oil and bake them at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown.
- Storage: Leftover egg rolls can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
- Additions: Feel free to add other ingredients like shredded carrots, cabbage, or bell peppers to the filling for added flavor and nutrition.
