Ingredients
For the crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup ice water
For the filling:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 cup pepperoni slices
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup bell peppers, diced (mix of colors)
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Make the crust:
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough forms. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the filling:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, garlic, and bell peppers; cook until softened. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Assemble the pie:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the dough and fit it into a greased pie dish, leaving some overhang.
- Layer half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on the bottom. Add the meat mixture, then top with pepperoni slices. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
- Fold the overhanging crust over the filling and crimp edges to seal.
- Bake:
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing.
