Homemade Krispy Kremes

Ingredients:

For the Doughnuts:

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
¼ cup warm water (110°F)
½ cup whole milk
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine milk, sugar, butter, and egg. Add the yeast mixture and mix well. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape Doughnuts: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out doughnuts using a round cutter, and use a smaller cutter to make the holes in the center. Place the doughnuts and holes on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for about 30 minutes.

Fry Doughnuts: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Prepare Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Glaze Doughnuts: Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze, coating them completely. Place them on a wire rack to let the glaze set.

Enjoy your homemade Krispy Kremes fresh and warm—perfect for breakfast, a sweet treat, or anytime you need a little indulgence!
