Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 hamburger buns
4 slices cheddar cheese
Lettuce, tomato, and onion for topping
For the Bacon Jam:
8 slices bacon, chopped
1 large onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Directions:
Prepare the Bacon Jam: In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving about 2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the skillet.
Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Stir in the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and smoked paprika. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Return the crispy bacon to the skillet and mix well. Remove from heat and let cool.
Prepare the Burgers: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into four equal patties.
Grill the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
Assemble the Burgers: Place each burger patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with a generous spoonful of bacon jam, then add lettuce, tomato, and onion. Cover with the top half of the bun.
