Homemade Churros

Ingredients

For the Churros:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Cinnamon Sugar:

  • 2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar:
    • In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together. Set aside.
  2. Make the Churro Dough:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
    • Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour until fully combined. The mixture will form a ball.
    • Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  3. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Pipe the Churros:
    • Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
    • Carefully pipe strips of dough (about 4-6 inches long) into the hot oil. Fry in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Fry the Churros:
    • Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
    • Use tongs to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
    • While the churros are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  7. Serve:
    • Enjoy your homemade churros on their own or with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping!

These churros are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, making for a perfect snack or dessert. Enjoy!
